Bubble vs FlutterFlow vs Lovable vs Base44: Which Should You Build On?

Bubble, FlutterFlow, Lovable and Base44 compared by an agency that builds on all four: what each one is best at, where it struggles, and how to choose for your product.

nocode development blog - Bubble vs FlutterFlow vs Lovable vs Base44: Which Should You Build On?

Founders often ask us which platform they should build on. We build on all four, Bubble, FlutterFlow, Lovable and Base44, so we do not need to sell one of them. This guide explains what each platform is good at, where it struggles, and how to pick the right one for your product.

The short answer

Your productBest fit
Marketplace, SaaS or platform with several user rolesBubble
CRM, client portal or internal business systemBubble or Base44
Mobile-first app for the App Store and Google PlayFlutterFlow
A product where you want to own and extend the codeLovable
A quick internal tool or prototype from a promptBase44 or Lovable

If two platforms look equally good, choose the one your team can maintain after launch. That matters more than any single feature.

Bubble

Bubble is a visual platform for building web applications. It combines a drag-and-drop editor with a built-in database, a workflow engine, hosting and a large plugin marketplace.

Best for: marketplaces, SaaS products, CRMs, portals and any web app with complex data, user roles and business rules.

Strengths

  • Data, logic, hosting and user accounts live in one place, so there is no separate backend to manage.
  • The logic stays visual. Your team can read and change workflows long after launch.
  • Thousands of plugins and templates. We publish our own Bubble templates and plugins.

Limitations

  • You cannot export the source code. The app runs on Bubble.
  • Mobile-first products are usually a better fit for FlutterFlow, even though Bubble has added native mobile building.

FlutterFlow

FlutterFlow is a visual builder for Flutter, Google's framework for native mobile apps. It produces real Flutter code and usually works with Firebase or Supabase as the backend.

Best for: mobile-first products that should be released in the App Store and Google Play.

Strengths

  • Native iOS and Android apps from one project, with smooth performance.
  • You can export the Flutter code and continue in a regular development workflow.

Limitations

  • The backend is a separate service, so data and permissions need their own setup.
  • Complex business logic often ends up in cloud functions, which needs more technical skill.

See hire FlutterFlow developers if your product is mobile-first.

Lovable

Lovable is an AI app builder: you describe what you want, and it writes a web app in React and TypeScript, usually with Supabase for data and accounts. The code can be synced to GitHub.

Best for: founders who want a fast first version and full ownership of the code, and teams that plan to continue with developers later.

Strengths

  • From a prompt to a working interface in minutes.
  • You own real code that any web developer can work on.

Limitations

  • Generated code needs review: security rules, data structure and edge cases are where AI-built apps most often break.
  • As the product grows, changes by prompt get harder to control. Many teams switch to editing the code directly.

We continue and audit existing Lovable projects. See hire Lovable developers.

Base44

Base44 is also an AI app builder, but it keeps the database, user accounts and hosting inside the platform, closer to how Bubble works.

Best for: internal tools, simple business apps and prototypes that you want to describe in plain language and use quickly.

Strengths

  • Very fast from idea to a working app with data and logins.
  • No separate backend to configure.

Limitations

  • Less control over complex logic than Bubble.
  • Like other AI builders, larger changes by prompt can produce unexpected results, so test after each change.

How to choose in five questions

  1. Web or mobile first? Mobile-first points to FlutterFlow. Web-first points to Bubble, Lovable or Base44.
  2. How complex is the logic? Several user roles, payments between users and many rules point to Bubble.
  3. Do you need the code? If you must own the source code, choose Lovable or FlutterFlow.
  4. Who maintains it after launch? A non-technical team is usually happier with Bubble's visual logic. A team with developers can work well with Lovable's code.
  5. How fast do you need the first version? For a demo in days, an AI builder is hard to beat. For a product you will grow for years, plan the data structure first, whatever the platform.

Can you switch later?

Yes, but it is a rebuild, not an export. A common path is to validate the idea with an AI builder and then build the production version on Bubble. The opposite also happens: when a Bubble product needs custom code or a different stack, we plan the move step by step. See migrate from Bubble.

What it costs with an agency

The platform choice changes the tool, not our rate: we work at $40 per hour on all four. A focused prototype takes about 2 weeks (from $3,200), a typical MVP about 4 weeks (around $6,400), and complex products 6 to 8 weeks. See our pricing for the full table.

FAQ

Is Bubble better than FlutterFlow?

For web apps with complex logic, usually yes. For mobile-first apps that must be in the app stores, FlutterFlow is usually the better choice.

Is Lovable a no-code tool?

Lovable is an AI app builder. You work mostly with prompts, but the result is real code, so it sits between no-code and traditional development.

Which platform is cheapest to build on?

The biggest cost is the work, not the platform subscription. Choose the platform that fits your product, because a poor fit costs more in rework than any plan difference.

Can EazyCode help me choose?

Yes. Describe your idea and the main things users should do, and we will recommend a platform on a free call. See hire no-code developers.
